During a business trip in Washington DC , I took some personal time and went to Chocolate House. As I walked down the stairs, my eager anticipation grew - I knew I was in for a real treat. I was not disappointed. In addition to beautiful chocolates that look like jewels and consist of high quality chocolates accented with fine coordinating and accents, they offer many different chocolate bars.
Go here to purchase chocolates for yourself, for your loved one (I purchased a box to bring to California to share with my husband - it took a lot of willpower to not eat some before arriving home), or for business associates. People who receive these chocolates will truly love the gift.

We visited the chocolate House for their chocolate tasting class. It was an excellent experience. We received a brief introduction to the history of chocolate followed a discussion on the processing of chocolate and were able to taste each different types of chocolate ranging from white chocolate and 100% cocoa. I gave these chocolates to several people as gifts and they told me they were the best chocolates they have ever had. I had to try them myself and they were gone in a heart beat, you cannot eat just one. This has become my go to chocolate store!

The Chocolate House in the walkable and hip Dupont Circle section of Washington, DC, has the best of both worlds for chocolate enthusiasts. You can enjoy the boutique chocolate shop with its select collection of chocolate from around the globe. And, if you want to learn more about the history, production, and social life around chocolate, try the Chocolate Tasting class for a reasonable fee. You won't be disappointed!
Marisol, the owner of The Chocolate House, is a "chocolate ambassador." She has read the classic texts, including histories and cookbooks, knows the stores around the globe where you can purchase the most exotic chocolates in the world, and is able to share that information in a fun and non-stuffy way.
In the 90-minute Chocolate Tasting class, up to a dozen individuals (12 years of age and older) can learn everything you ever wanted to know about chocolate -- history, how it's grown, and how the bean becomes chocolate. Questions are welcome and answered with spirit!
Then, the fun begins when you learn how to evaluate chocolate -- its appearance, how it snaps, smells, and tastes -- using eight unique chocolates to grade. The chocolate grading sheet guides you in evaluating chocolate the way experts do.
The Chocolate House also offers a two-hour Truffles Making Class for those who want a truly "hands-on" experience.
Be sure to book your class in advance to avoid disappointment.

A horribly rainy day became lucky for my husband and me -- we had our own "private" chocolate tasting class! Not only was truly tasting the exotic to fun flavors in each different piece of chocolate from all over the world an eye-opening experience for us but also learning the history of the cacao plant with Marisol as our "tour guide" worth getting wet coming into DC! Our meager world travels happened to be cacao-friendly and I only wish we happened to meet Marisol before we ventured to those countries! Also, Marisol converted my husband, a "milk-chocolate, never-ever dark chocolate eater" into a dark chocolate buyer in the shop..a chocolate miracle!

I bought discounted tickets back in May from Living Social. Finally committed to a date for chocolate tasting yesterday. Great presentation from Marisol tasting eight varieties from 100% to 68%. Flavors ranging from earth, red fruit, caramel, vanilla, roses and carrot cake. It was an enjoyable afternoon. Couldn’t resist to make a purchase at the end of the class. A great way to spend some time.

The owner, Marisol, is very nice and knowledgeable about chocolate. We learned about the history of chocolate/where it's grown and then tasted six different kinds. The store carries all kinds of exotic and unique types of chocolates to buy and sample. A fun way to spend a few hours!

I visited The Chocolate House to participate in a truffle making. The House is a hidden jewel, the Chef who taught the class was very knowledgeable and the chocolates were outstanding. I highly recommend a visit.

Chocolate house.
Visited this little gem of a boutique chocolate shop twice while traveling in Washington DC in Nov 17. It is a great shop that tempts anyone who appreciates and loves chocolate. They make an excellent hot chocolate that’s made with quality ingredients including cloves and cinnamon as well as a great chocolate base. Not full of sugar. This is for serious chocolate lovers who appreciate quality. If you have seen the film “Chocolate” then you will know what I am saying.
One of the chocolatiers, Marisole, is by far the most knowledgeable person on chocolate that I have ever met! She has a wonderful knowledge about chocolate and is well worth asking her to share it when you have time.
There is a wide range of specialty chocolate bars and products that are sourced from a wide range of suppliers. It would take sometime to try them all, so pace yourself!
A great hidden gem of a chocolate shop, that’s next to a bookshop. You need to walk down the stairs to get the small entrance door, so make sure you don’t miss it as it’s definitely worth at least one visit. If you like it, you’ll come back for more - I did!! 😊😊thank you Marisol.
