We did 3 tours with Caves Branch as part of our stay. 1 - River Caves Expedition: Fun ~10 minute open air bus / Jeep / truck ride to the private portion of Caves Branch. Was low water level, water was warm, gentle inner tube float to the large cave system. Did a lot more hiking inside the cave than I had thought we would, helpful to have old sneakers to wear for traction. We wore swim suits / swim shirts. They provided the helmets / lights / drinks / and a candelabra lit picnic lunch! Amazing guides! 2 - Tikal: Long drive, the guide has worked with Caves Branch for > 20 years so felt very safe. Incredible breakfast and lunch in Guatemala. Edgar (guide) knew everyone at Tikal, it was surprisingly not crowded and we were able to see a lot of the park in a relatively brief time which was good because it was very hot! Air conditioned shuttle was great and Caves Branch provided waters. 3 - Black Hole: Another short open air ride to the hike. Hike to / from was strenuous but we were encouraged to go at a pace that we could handle and to drink water frequently. I am not super fit and was able to do the hike. The guides were amazing and showed us so much about the jungle as we were hiking. Even gave us the opportunity to try eating termites! The mosquitos are fierce - need bug repellent and reapply frequently! The rappelling was SO fun! The guide (Carlos who has also worked for Caves Branch for many years) explained all the wilderness medicine training they have had as well as reviewed the safety features of the ropes / gear they were using. They provided the helmets / harnesses / back packs, 3 liters of H20 per person, and lunch at the bottom of the sink hole. We hiked around the bottom of the sink hole and learned about the history of the site / Belize. The hike back out involved climbing up a very long ladder (connected with a safety harness) and hiking back the same trail we had hiked in. Highly recommend the adventure tours with Caves Branch!

We just returned from 5 days at Caves Branch with our group of 10, ranging in age from toddlers to grandparents. It was an amazing experience for everyone - plenty to do for the little ones, lots of exciting adventure for the teenagers and their parents, beautiful accommodations in jungle bungalows, and great food. The care and attention of the staff, from servers to guides, was truly exceptional! We highly recommend a stay at Caves Branch for anyone thinking of a jungle experience in Belize.

My wife and I had the absolute best time at the waterfall cave expedition! Ivan and Arnold were our guides and we couldn’t say enough good things about them. We had high expectations coming in, and they and the tour in general, far exceeded every one of them. We were debating between the very well-known ATM cave tours and this one, and we are so happy we chose Caves Branch. They were very professional, provided everything we needed, kept us safe, and were so much fun. The candlelight lunch in the cave was delicious as well! We are already looking forward to the next time we can go back to Caves Branch.

The people make this place so awesome! Ill admit i was a little picky with details on my reservation, only because it was so special to me. It was a post bday trip for my gf and i and my parents were joining also. However, i can say these people went above and beyond in meeting and exceeding my expectations. Kayron and Bianie were very nice and helpful with my reservation from the very beginning. Then when arriving, Geovani, Marco and all the staff were so good to us. If i had a concern, they were there assisting in no time. Abner gave us the full botanical tour in spanish (my request) and my parents couldn't be happier. Same with the cheese tasting. Oh everything was great. The rooms are adorable, we counted 70 stairs to our canopy tree house but it is SO worth the walk.

Thanks guys! Ill definitely return.

If you're reading this trying to decide if you should go or not- you should! You wont regret it!

Ian Anderson's Caves Branch Resort/Adventures was an experience of a lifetime. I recommend that you book for no less than 3 nights and 2 days of adventures, excursions and meals included. There is plenty to do for 5-6 days. Gorgeous reserve, deep in the jungle; exceptional accommodations; separate tree houses or bungalows. Spacious, modern ; indoor/outdoor showers. Fully screened in-we had no problem with bugs. Had exceptionally cool weather (68-75 F). No need for the small AC .Good Family style buffet
Check out the website for all of the adventures that they offer - from "mild" to "heart-dropping" We are 67 and 70 (among the older visitors at the resort), so went for the milder, although still vigorous, Cave Tubing, where we tubed into, then hiked and climbed partly through a Mayan cave, with an excellent guide (Wilmer), who provided us with great Mayan perspectives on history, rituals, and artifacts. I am not a great climber and Wilmer was there with me every step of the way.
We also took a full day (12 hour) visit to Tikal, the largest Mayan ruins site in Central America, in Guatemala. Caves Branch arranged everything very conveniently - drivers, an exceptional guide (Edgar), border crossing, etc. The ruins are deep-set in the jungle. Whole day included about 6 hours of driving, it was well worth it
Ian and his wife, Ella, are remarkable, friendly folks - full of knowledge that they readily share at mealtime with you. Highlights: jungle , super staff, adventures

I stayed here this past weekend because I had booked a trip to go to the waterfall cave adventure. The adventure was amazing, there were about 11 people at the resort that had signed up for the tour which felt like too many because it takes a while for people to be able to climb up the waterfalls, some of the girls in the group were complaining that they were getting cold standing around waiting. Other than that the guys were incredible.

as for the resort itself, it is a very family-oriented resort, there are children in the pool at all times so if you were looking for a romantic peaceful getaway with no children, I would look someplace else. If you have a family and this is the place for you in regards to that aspect. If you do not rent a car, you are pretty much at the mercy of the shuttle or taxi, there is nothing nearby so you are forced to eat on property. Each meal was $30 per person and the food was good but not impressive. They also come to your table as you're sitting and eating with randomly assigned tables of people and try to sell you on packages for the next day. I don't really care for the high-pressure sales but I understand the concept of keeping their guests entertained. As an adventure Traveller, I will probably not be going back but if you're looking for an all in one trip are you don't have to think about anything and you can just exist in the jungle, this is exactly what you need.

We travel pretty often and I almost never write reviews but we honestly had such a great time here, I feel like everyone should know about this place! We recently spent a week at the Caves Branch Lodge near Belmopan with our three kids who are 11, 9, and 7. We stayed in one of the tree house cabins with a gorgeous view of the canopy, which was such a cool experience (and being 136 steps up from the ground, a pretty good daily workout! ;). The grounds of the lodge including the pool area, the river, and the restaurant were lovely and the food and level of service were outstanding. We did a different excursion every day and while we limited ourselves to the ones that are age appropriate for young children (the Mayan ruins at Xunantunich, a day trip to Tikal in Guatemala, the Belize zoo, horseback riding, zip-lining, and cave tubing), they were all exciting and fun for the whole family. You can tell that the staff puts a lot of time and care into planning and running these tours because they are all so efficient and well run - there was no waiting around, no confusion about where to go, all of the guides were incredibly kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. I honestly can't say enough good things about them. Near the end of our stay, we asked our kids which activity was their favorite and they kept insisting that all of them were and they are already asking to go back in a few years in order to do the more adventurous, physically demanding tours. We had a wonderful family vacation here.

We went as two couples, and a third separate couple joined our adventure. Guides Hector, Augustine and Marelio (not sure about his name) managed our trip just like clockwork. Met up at the lodge, gave us daypacks with water, helmets and climbing harnesses, traveled in their "Jungle Limo" (a trailer behind a tractor) the couple miles to the site and got walking. The hike is fairly steep, but not that long. Took us less than 45 minutes. There are plenty of uninvited mosquitoes though, so bring your repellent!
At the site, we relaxed while the guide team set up the ropes and equipment. They are very competent! We had no qualms trusting the equipment or the setup.
Then, it was time to go - what fun! About 15 feet walking down the side of the cliff, and then its a free rappel almost 300 feet to the bottom passing by caves and then down through the trees. The guides even took pictures of us on the way down.
After we gathered at the bottom, it was a short hike through the jungle at the bottom to a huge cave where we had an excellent lunch. Lots of good information about the caves, the wildlife inside, the Maya who lived there in the past and more. Hector was particularly informative.
More short hikes, more caves and then up the ladder and a short hike up and back out. The hike down was a bit slippery, but there are ropes and railings just about everywhere you need them.
So, bring your adventurous spirit and go - we were happy we did!

Treehouse 23 is a nice walk up maybe 175 feet elevation from the lodge, and was just a dream. A good sized multilevel house with great attention to detail and comfort, it was all we could have wanted and more.

The staff were excellent with some of best customer service anywhere.

Family style buffet meals with home made cheeses provided all our needs and more, and encouraged friendly interactions with fellow guests.

Bar drinks were tasty, and coffee delivered to treehouse early morning.

We chose the waterfall tour, which had us inside a huge cave system for a few hours. A great adventure! Jumping back down waterfalls after climbing up with safety rope was indeed a thrill!

Great place ! Highest recommendation!

This place is faithful to its description, no complaints at all. However, it was not memorable. It was very similar to other expensive hotels i have visited in Africa , catering to expats.

Dear crozzaHome, Thank you for your comments and please know that it was our pleasure to host you. We are so sorry that Caves Branch did not impress you... we will agree 100% that we are NOT for everyone! As you will read in the scores of reviews for just this year alone- we DO cater to a very distinct market- that of the Adventure Traveller that is looking for something unique and extreme in terms of an Adventure Vacation. We do however understand your comments and wish you all the best!
