I went with good friends to NextStop Theatre on the Saturday before the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. What a perfect time to see The Mountaintop, brilliantly written by Katori Hall. The pacing of the show and direction by Kevin McAllister were perfect. The two exceptional actors were required to express an abundance of feelings, movements, and attitudes throughout 90 minutes, which flew by quickly. Curtis McNeil as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. portrayed doubt, fear, passion, and gratitude, while Shayla Simmons as the hotel maid brought coffee, humor, curiosity, teasing, compassion, and more. Simmons has an outstanding flair for physical comedy, from her facial expressions and body stances to excellent slapstick and oration. The script shows Dr. King as truly human – full of misgivings, yet struggling to continue to serve his cause. McNeil also had his share of physical humor when an ingenious plot twist revved up the action. As the ending neared, the actors’ feelings were palpable. A beautiful script, talented actors, great director, and effective stage crew need an appreciative audience. There are ten dates left in this series; get your tickets as fast as you can! I look forward to seeing Simons, McNeil, and McAllister in other productions in our area. Bravo to all.

Next Stop continues to deliver great shows brimming with talent! I’ve seen several there and always blown away by what they can do in this quaint, neighborhood theatre. Easy in and out with a cozy feel. Just saw Beehive and highly recommend it. I can’t wait to go back for another show this year. You won’t be disappointed! In fact, you will be thrilled and want more!!

Small theater with seats that have an excellent view (close and steep). The stage is small but allows intimacy. Small snack cart with eclectic options. We are season ticket holders and have enjoyed every performance of the year. Singin in the Rain was exceptional. We did not think they would make it rain on the small set … but they did a super job of incorporating … exceptionally well done.

Went to see East of Eden and what an amazing and brave performance. This is not an easy play to present or adapt and this Theater Company nailed it! Such a great gem in we have in Herndon and very excited to see other performances as they are presented. If you get a chance to see anything here, on sheer intimacy alone, this is a winner!

We're season ticket holders at NextStop Theatre and we just love it. The theatre is conveniently located close to our home, Parking is free and the productions are great! The seating is first come, first served but with only a handful of rows, there are no bad seats.
Each production begins with a cast member encouraging audience members to introduce themselves to the person next to them. It really brings a sense of community to the theater as a whole.

Our first visit to this theater (saw Amour) and we were impressed. Highly talented actors, orchestra, lighting, choreography. Why go all the way to DC to see a show when there is such talent here locally. Friendly, social fellow patrons. Beer and wine is available to bring into the show too.

Amour, an energetic musical love story at the NextStop Theatre, was adapted from the 1943 short story Le Passe-Muraille by Marcel Aymé. The music by Michel Legrand, French film composer, is melodic, and the libretto by Didier van Cauwelaert is very clever. Scenic Designer Jack Golden and his carpenters and painters construct remarkable sturdy sets in their small venue. In this case, there were seven shops with doors and a balcony depicting the 18th arrondissement (Montmarte) in Paris. Each door is colorful, with hand-painted signs above, and some brilliant enhancements that further the plot. The actors have their work cut out for them: zany characters, lots of emotion, dancing, and the entire show is sung from beginning to end (think The Umbrellas of Cherbourg on steroids). The actors’ characters require a range of feelings from one moment to the next, and the physical comedy was rife. Rich Khatcheressian as the main character Dusoleil was amazing, and Teresa Danskey as Isabelle gave a strong, lovely, and heartfelt performance. Molly Hicks Larson has an extraordinary sense of movement, voice, and comedy. Director Gloria DuGan kept the pace brisk while Jeannie Torres contributed lively choreography making every actor shine. The orchestra, as always, was excellent. Next Stop is a small venue, and my sole criticism is that at times the microphones could have been a little softer, as these performers can belt out a tune. Amour is jewel of a show. Don’t miss the hilarity that ensues when boy yearns for girl and girl pines for boy, and all of us cheer for our unlikely hero.

Cat go wrong with this little theater in Herndon. Every seat is a good seat in the house and you are literally right on the stage. My ONLY complaint is parking. You have to find it on the complex, not just in front of the theater since it’s a store front. Other than that...great place.

Is there parking on site- or where do you park for a Friday evening performance?
Are you allowed to bring in drinks? - or do you offer them?

Parking is free anywhere inside the "Sunset Business Park" where the theatre is located. With the exception of yellow-curbs, corners, and loading zones, everywhere is fair game.
There is a bar with local craft beer, featured wines, specialty drinks, as well as bottled sodas and snacks. Outside food and beverages that are noisy, messy, or carry odors are not permitted, but others are permitted within reason. Alcohol may not be brought inside the venue due to state regulations, with the exception of unopened bottles of wine, which may be opened at our bar and served to you.
